Well, the search continues for an accessible conferencing solution that can be used to continue providing the Assistive Technology Show. Many have suggested TC Conference from Talking Communities, however, I am a bit concerned as they don’t yet have a Macintosh client and we have a slowly increasing base of Mac participants. A more promising solution, all-be-it a less user friendly one, is Ventrilo. in order to use Ventrilo, you would have to install a client to your computer. You would then need to configure the client to access our server — this would fortunately only need to be done once. Clients exist for both the Macintosh and Windows platforms and in both cases, the client is accessible. What’s the problem then? Well, I kind of like the way our former system worked — very little user intervention, just click, enter your name and join. Ideally, I could find a way to make Ventrilo this easy to use, but that hasn’t happened yet.

So, have you used any other conferencing solutions you think should be tried? I’m certainly open to any suggestions, so please Email me, or utilize any of the contact methods shown on the contact us form.

One way or another, I look forward to again bringing you the Assistive Technology Show in the near future. In the mean time, I’m working on creating a series of podcasts that will cover a number of assistive technology related issues — many of which have come up at one time or another on the show. Please check out the Assistive Technology Show archives as these podcasts will be placed here upon creation.

Thanks for your patience as I attempt to figure all this out,

Steve
