OK, I was so excited to be getting this week’s show announcement sent out early to my announcement list, that I forgot to include one minor little detail — the time of This week’s show. This week, the Assistive Technology Show will take place at our regular time, Wednesday evening between 7:00-9:00 PM, EDT. Next week, I’ll try not to be too trigger happy with that send button :).

Ever wished you had a second phone line, but didn’t want to incur yet another monthly charge? Perhaps you travel, and would just find it handy to be able to place calls from virtually anywhere? This week, on the Assistive Technology Show, we’ll be looking at Magic Jack, a product that claims to make this possible. In addition, our own Jerry will provide us with a demonstration.

So, what is it anyway? Magic Jack is a little device that connects to your computer’s USB port and into which you can plug in a regular telephone. Using your phone, you can make and receive calls which then get routed over your computer’s Internet connection. Best part, however, is that Magic Jack only costs $19.95/year, that’s right, per year, for unlimited calls to the US and Canada. So, what are the catch? How easy is it to get set up and running? How accessible is the software and web site? On this week’s Assistive Technology Show, we’ll answer these questions and many more.

Magic Jack not sounding like it’s for you? I try to leave ample time during each show, to allow for any assistive technology, or technology related questions you may have. So even if this week’s featured topic isn’t of interest, chances are high that you’ll come away learning something new.
